Culture & TourismEco-friendly holiday housing fair in Mäntyharju from 27th June to 10th July, 2011.The Holiday Housing Fair will be held in Pähkinälehto in Pyhäkoski, 10 km west of the centre of Mäntyharju. The fair area is located on the shore of Lake Pyhävesi about 2 km south of the junction of Main Road 5 and Vihannansalmentie road. Distances from the fair area Honkahimmeli, the world’s largest wooden bridge that is part of a main road, is located approxi-mately 2.3 km away in Vihantasalmi. The distance to Mikkeli, the largest town in the region, is 40 km. The distance to Helsinki is around 180 km. Attractions
Salmela Art Centre A major cultural event. Many varied art forms in a charming church vil- lage setting. Art exhibits, concerts, summerhouse architecture. It contains a genuine military dugout, trenches, and a cannon from the Second World War. Photo- graphs, objects and handwork from the wartime period. Open daily 12 June - 8 August 12-6pm (closed Mondays). Additional hours by ar- rangement. tel. 040 503 3183 Mäntyharju Church The second largest wood church in Finland, and the largest log build- ing with horizontally-laid, corner- notched log construction. The church, designed by government architect Charles Bassi, was com- pleted in 1822. The bell tower was completed in 1819. Open 1 June -8 August 9am-4pm. tel. 0400 143 630 Tyry Wine Farm The farm makes wines and liqueurs from home-grown berries and currants. The restaurant is fully licensed.
